Some of you are looking for ways to cover logos on your skates, check out some tried and true ideas from fellow derby peeps. There’s many ways to be creative, from covering up with stickers and patches to overall paint jobs. Check out some of our faves below.
“I took off the logo on the metallic portion with nail polish remover, painted the metallic over with a glitter acrylic paint. And used a star duct tape to cover the heel logo. I haven’t done my plates yet, but a friend used a Dremel to get the logo off the plates.”

“Chalk paint works as well. Seal with mod podge”.
“I removed the logos on my skates with acetone. It peeled a titch of the Halo off the leather but that was only one side. I used less pressure on the second boot and it didn’t remove any of the halo. So basically, don’t rub your anger away if you want to do it right lol”.

You may have gear you want to get rid of, just know Derby Without Borders is accepting donations. This organization helps get gear to international teams that don’t have access to local skate shops, so they experience high shipping costs and wait times. Derby Without Borders also helps get gear to teams that experience a barrier to entry due to location or being a newly formed team.
There’s other ways to help the community, like this GoFundMe helping BIPOC skaters to replace their M*ta skates.
If you’re still unable to find a way to cover a logo, don’t feel bad or don’t let yourself be bullied into covering them up. Leagues shouldn’t pressure you to buy new skates, we’ve heard that’s happening already… Wait til you can afford it or ask a crafty friend to help.
